MPK at General Electric's World HeadquartersThe Kiosk Factory helps automate visitor enrollment at General Electric’s world headquarters- January 2003

Facing increased threats post-911, the security consultants to GE recommended MPK as the platform of choice for GE’s secure enrollment initiative. The all stainless steel MPK model pictured here was installed.

Software Product Development Initiative Seeing Results – October 2002

In early 2002, The Kiosk Factory launched a program to develop five turnkey kiosks complete with application specific software. All five kiosks are based on The Kiosk Factory’s Multi Purpose Kiosk (MPK), the world’s only modular and field upgradeable kiosk, and the experience gained from monitoring kiosks in the field for over ten years. We believe that these applications represent the business opportunities with the most promise for our customers: Reserved Seat Ticketing, Way Finding and Tenant Directory, In-Store Product Showcase, Fast Food Order Taker (Pre-Declare, Pre-Pay POS), and ERP Home Base and Safety Info Source.

With a number of successful projects under our belt, like the deployment of our kiosks with RDS Data Group’s custom “Fast Lane” film ticketing application, this was the next most logical step to The Kiosk Factory president, Julian Bowron: “Of the kiosks we’ve deployed, over a thousand had custom applications, and all of those are still working. Last year we deployed MPKs in several tough environments, including the plant floor of a coal-fired generating station and outside theatres in Southern California. Now that we have proven the custom software concept, and the MPK platform, it’s time to drive both into markets that want a turnkey product.”

The rational is simple: A useful kiosk should save labour and improve service, and our experience has shown that a custom application is not only the most stable, but also the fastest and most versatile solution to many of our customers’ needs. A good example of this is the information and way finding kiosk we recently designed and built for a US university; based on our MPK system, this kiosk featured application specific software and components designed and created in-house at The Kiosk Factory.

Healthy Company Outlook - October 2002

In 2002, The Kiosk Factory has continued to meet its sales targets, due in part to the great success of our Multi Purpose Kiosk (MPK). This concept has proven to be as popular as expected, and is the basis of most new orders. The design and prototyping department is also very active and generating steady revenue.

Contributing to this rosy picture, our parent company, Feature Factory Inc., is thriving following a return to its roots in high-end, custom exhibit and entertainment design and fabrication. Recent Feature Factory project highlights included detailing and supplying the lobby feature for the new W Hotel on Times Square in NYC. Completed in Spring, 2002, this $500,000 project, was designed by Toronto based Yabu Pushelberg, and built in collaboration with Crystal Fountains, also of Toronto.

Feature Factory has also completed design/build "makeovers" for two well-known Canadian chains, Bowlerama and Just Desserts, and exhibits for the INCO Gallery of Earth Sciences at the Royal Ontario Museum. Current projects on the go include the fabrication of 10 1½ ton chandeliers for an Ohio public building.

The Kiosk Factory’s trademark is its combination of originality, resourceful practicality and high quality craftsmanship; this has proven invaluable to clients wanting to create a contemporary and relevant impression, and to benefit from the implementation of new technologies. Our unique capabilities ensure feasibility, controlling costs and scheduling, and reducing the client’s project management burden to a minimum.

Our ability to provide complete, continent-wide service and support is augmented by our affiliation with POS specialists RDS Data Group, and several business solutions developers.
